Helpful Tips

At “OriginalPhotoArt” we want nothing more than for you to enjoy your framed picture for as many years as possible. In order to help you care for your framed picture whilst reaping maximum enjoyment from it, we’ve put together the following tips. By following them you should find that your framed picture will be enjoyed and admired by both yourself and your friends and visitors for a long, long time.

Never Hang Pictures Above Radiators

Extreme and rapid changes in temperature cause paper and wood to warp, hence your framed picture should never be hung directly above radiators. Extreme heat fluctuations can also cause adhesives tofail.

Display Framed Prints at Eye Level

Framed prints are almost invariably designed to be viewed at eye-level. Although groups of pictures do not necessarily need to be hung in a symmetrical pattern, it’s advisable to align the top edges. The final arrangement you choose, as long as the pictures can be viewed comfortably, will depend largely on your taste and the style of the room they’re to be displayed in.

Hang Your Framed Prints Securely

Nobody wants to lose a beautiful framed picture because it wasn’t hung properly.

We suggest:

  • You use two hooks in the wall, one at either side of the picture set at about quarter of the way in.

  • You check that the cord (or hanger) is strong enough to take the weight of the framed print.

While the hangers supplied with our framed prints are designed to hold the weight of the frame and glass etc. under normal use, it’s always advisable to check that the hanger is secure and that the hooks are set firmly into the wall.

Caring For Your Framed Print

In order to enjoy your framed print for as many years as possible, we suggest you:

  • Protect your framed print from water by never using a damp cloth or cleaning fluids to clean the frame or glazing. Dust the frames either with a cloth or a soft brush. Try not to rub the surface of the glazing too vigorously as this can sometimes become scratched.

  • Hang your framed print away from direct sunlight as the sun’s rays will fade colours and discolour the paper. If you MUST hang your print in the sun, there is a solution available where the glazing is exchanged for UV coated glass, however this is a very expensive solution with the UV glass costing about 35 times the cost of acrylic or plain glass.

  • Always protect prints on fine art paper behind glass or acrylic glazing.

  • Whenever carrying or transporting a framed print it’s important you grasp the frame firmly on both sides.

  • When storing pictures they should always be stacked vertically and the right way up. Stand them “glass to glass” as this will stop the hangers from touching—and possibly damaging—the glass.
